DCU rock musical to hit Olympia
- 29 April 2009
DCU Drama Society production of RENT, a rock musical tale of AIDS, homelessness and the bohemian lifestyle will be opening in the Olympia Theatre from 15-20 June. This is a first time that an Irish University Society production has been endorsed by a major national promoter, MCD.
The musical, written by Jonathan Larson, was staged in The Helix in March and sold over 1,350 tickets. It received universal acclaim from both within and outside DCU. Reviewers raved about the professionalism of the show, comparing the quality of the all-student production to that seen on Broadway or the West End.
One of Dublin's oldest and most respected performance venues, in what is a first for an Irish University Society and a major coup for DCU's brightest young stars.
John Carson, cast member and technical manager for RENT, said "We had such a brilliant experience at The Helix, we just didn't want the show to end, and now we get to do it again! It's very exciting news - for us, for DCU Drama and for the college itself."
Director John Donnelly is returning to the helm for the 6-performance
run, which will open on Monday 15th June at 8pm and run until Saturday 20th.
