FIONTAR wins European Award for Languages-the Language Label 2007

FIONTAR was awarded the European Award for Languages –the Language Label 2007 at a ceremony to mark the seventh European day of Languages. Eight Irish projects were awarded the European Award for Languages-the Language Label for innovative ways of teaching and learning languages by Professor Daniel Coste, Professor Emeritus of the École Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines, Lyon, at an awards ceremony in the Clock Tower, Department of Education and Science, Dublin 27 September 2007.
Professor Coste commented that we should be proud that the number and quality of projects submitted in Ireland remains consistently high each year and is testament to the excellent work being carried out throughout the country in the field of language teaching and learning.
Dr Muiris Ó Laoire, Chair of the Irish National Jury, noted an underlying theme of learners teaching learners among the winning projects demonstrating the enthusiasm and motivation young people have for language learning in Ireland. FIONTAR won the award for focal.ie an online terminology currently holding 286,525 terms mainly in English and Irish. Focal.ie was developed under an EU Interreg programme and with funding from Foras na Gaeilge.
