The “Antichrist of Marketing”, Professor Stephen Brown, visits DCUBS

DCU Business faculty, students had the honour this week of meeting with Stephen Brown, Professor of Marketing at the University of Ulster. Described by academic admirers as “The Antichrist of Marketing” and “a postmodern provocateur”, Professor Brown treated attendees to a reading from his book Agents & Dealers, and a Q&A session about his forthcoming novel The Customer Key.

Agents & Dealers is a prequel to Brown’s previous book, The Marketing Code, arguably the world’s first ‘management thriller’. Noticing that his students were unwilling to wade through the tedium of traditional textbooks, he elected to radically change the template: thrills replaced theories, corpses superseded case studies, and bullets were exchanged for bullet-points.

Stephen Brown has written twenty books in total; he is renowned for his sparkling conference presentations; he has been a visiting professor at the University of California, the University of Utah, and Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

Prof Brown visited DCUBS as part of the Consuming Identity - Centre for Consumption Studies Spring Seminar Series. Further seminars in this series will be delivered by Maurice Patterson of the University of Limerick's Kemmy Business School, and Dr Eminegul Karababa of the University of Exeter School of Business and Economics.
