5th Annual Conference of IALIC
Politics, Plurilingualism and Linguistic Identity

Globalisation is leading to the rapid expansion of intercultural communication as an activity and as a research focus. Intercultural communication may be take place through English, but, as a discipline, it cannot avoid the question of plurilingualism. The fifth annual conference of the International Association for Language and Intercultural Communication (IALIC) will focus on the politics of plurilingualism and linguistic identity. With keynote speakers from Ireland, Germany, the US and the UK and over 70 other speakers from more than 30 countries, the conference will address issues such as the multilingual university, power and intercultural communication, multilingualism and citizenship, resisting dominant languages, hybridity and migration, and the consequences of monolingualism.
Keynote speakers : Thomas K Nakayama, Arizona State University ; Máirín Nic Eoin, St Patrick's College, Drucondra ; David Little, Trinity College Dublin ; Gavin Jack, University of Leicester ; Wolfgang Mackiwicz, Free University, Berlin and European Language Centre.
