The Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin TD and British Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Owen Patterson MP both officially launched a new book on policing in Northern Ireland, "Policing the Narrow Ground: Lessons From the Transformation of Policing in Northern Ireland". The book is edited by Professor John Doyle, Head of the School of Law and Government in DCU and includes contributions from Chris Patten, Hugh Orde, Nuala O’Loan, Tom Constantine, Maurice Hayes, Kathleen O’Toole, Desmond Rea, Denis Bradley and Barry Gilligan, Clifford Shearing, Gerald Lynch, Peter Smith, Maggie Beirne, Martin O’Brien, John Doyle, Mary O’Rawe, Graham Ellison and Mark Downes.

This book reflects on the Patten Report on Policing in Northern Ireland, its role in the subsequent and ongoing transformation of policing in Northern Ireland and the lessons of the Northern Ireland experience for security-sector reform internationally. 'Policing the Narrow Ground' will put into the public domain, in a collected form, reflections from key actors involved in this hugely important process, along with a number of academic analyses of the process of policing reform and its international significance. Policing the Narrow Ground is published by the Royal Irish Academy.
