Oliver Cussen presents the inaugural DAA Aviation Management prize

Oliver Cussen, Deputy Chief Executive and Company Secretary of the DAA was on campus to present the inaugural DAA Aviation Management prize to four students studying for a B.Sc in Aviation Management with Pilot Studies at DCU
Prizes were awarded in two categories, Aviation Management and Flying Theory. The recipients were:
- John O'Donovan - first prize for Aviation Management
- Jijiy Thomas - second prize for Aviation Management
- Andrew Kennedy - first prize for Flying Theory
- Samuel Halpenny - second prize for Flying Theory
In addition to supporting the Aviation Management Awards the DAA support a speaker series which brings a number of prominent speakers to campus each year. Earlier this year Willie Walsh introduced students to International Airlines Group and the strategies behind his future plans for the business and most recently Jurgen Whyte, Chief Inspector of Air Accidents at Air Accident Investigation Unit spoke to students about his role and relayed real world practicalities, experiences and opportunities to the students on the Aviation Management course.
The DAA also support a number of students completing degrees at DCU through the DCU Access Scholarship Programme.
DCU Business School in collaboration with the faculty of Engineering and Computing launched Ireland's first aviation management degree in 2009. This ground-breaking degree has been designed for those who plan to enter the dynamic world of aviation whether as commercial pilots or to pursue fast-paced management careers.
