Future of Politics - DCU to host major conference

DCU's School of Law and Government is hosting a major international
conference on 'The Future of Politics', from 30 August to 1 September 2010.
The event, which is the largest of its kind to be held in Ireland, will
be attended by 500 academics from all over Europe to present their work
at the third graduate conference of the European Consortium for
Political Research.
The conference will be addressed by two world-renowned scholars.
Professor Michael Cox of the London School of Economics will deliver a
keynote address on 'The Coming Crisis of the West'. Professor Michael
Cox has spoken to high profile audiences around the world and has
produced over 20 books including one on ‘The Rise and Fall of the
American Empire’; ‘The United States and World Order’ and a series, on
‘Rethinking World Politics’.
Professor Philippe Schmitter (European Union Institute, Florence),
renowned scholar of democratisation will also give a lecture on “The
micro-foundations of the sciences of politics”.
The conference covers a wide range of contentious political issues
included Islamic terrorism, women in post conflict reconstruction, human
rights, immigration, interest groups in world politics and impact of the
media.
