DCU hosts the 5th European University Tennis Championships

DCU officially opened the 5th European University Tennis Championships with a Ceremony in the NuBar on Monday the 8th of December. DCU are the hosts of this prestigious competition which sees officials and students representing 17 Universities from 10 different countries competing for the European University Tennis title. Matches will be played in the Tennis Ireland National training Centre and Westwood Clontarf and will commence on Tuesday the 9th of December. The Men’s & Ladies Finals will be played in Westwood Clontarf on Sunday the 14th of December.
Jamie Pilkington Chair of the event Organising Committee opened the ceremony and welcomed everyone to Ireland. Martin Conry, Secretary of DCU welcomed all participants to DCU and commended all participants on their achievements to date in their respective countries. Kieran Down spoke on behalf of the Colleges & Universities Sports Association of Ireland (CUSAI), followed by Leonz Eder from the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and Des Allen, CEO Tennis Ireland.
Commenting on the event Yvonne O’Connor, DCU Sport & Recreation Officer said ‘These teams represent the best university tennis teams from across Europe and this will be a fantastic week of tennis. DCU are proud to be hosting this event and we are delighted that DCU are representing Ireland in this competition as the DCU Men’s and Ladies teams both hold the Irish University titles. Students, staff and the local community are welcome to come to the Tennis Ireland National Training Centre or Westwood Clontarf to show their support’.
