Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development seminar at DCU

DCU Business School in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) hosted a unique thought leadership event on 22 June 2011, presented by Jackie Orme, Chief Executive of CIPD UK and Ireland. The seminar, ‘Insight-led HR: the latest thinking on HR strategy and practice’, examined the ‘Next Generation HR’ and the changing nature of HR.
The CIPD is Europe's largest HR and development professional body. With over 135,000 members across 120 countries including Ireland, they provide support and development to those responsible for the management and development of people within organisations.
The latest research by CIPD identified an ‘Insight approach’ to HR which is not merely the preserve of a few experienced senior players in an organisation. In introducing the concept of ‘organisational insight’- the combination of real business ‘savvy’ and a deep appreciation of the people, political and cultural factors that determine ‘what really goes on around here’- the CIPD research unpicks the capacity of HR to offer unique solutions to the challenges of building organisations that last. This is particularly salient for Irish HR practitioners given the effects of the Irish recession on the manner in which people are managed at work.
Michael McDonnell, Director, CIPD Ireland attended the seminar, as well as over 100 HR professionals from across the country and students of the MBS in Human Resource Strategies, and the MBS in Human Resource Management alumni.
