Boxer Darren Sutherland goes professional

In a press conference held today in The Helix, it was announced that DCU student and Irish Olympic bronze medalist Darren Sutherland would become a professional boxer.
Darren, who is studying for a B.Sc in Sports Science and Health in DCU, has signed a three-year contract with promoter and manager Frank Maloney, Lennox Lewis' former manager. Darren will box at a super-middleweight level and his fights will be exclusively televised live by Sky Sports. The first of these fights, his professional debut, will be held here in Dublin City University. Tickets for this fight will go on sale next month.
During the packed press conference Darren was vocal about his ambitions for the future and was equally as vocal about the help that DCU had given to him in the past.
Frank Maloney is expected to announce Darren's first professional opponent next month.
