DCU team mates go head-to-head in Croke Park Final

23 September 2010

The blue ribbon event of Ladies Gaelic Football will hold a special interest for DCU this weekend (Sunday 26 September) when Dublin take on Tyrone in the Senior Final at Croke Park. No less than six DCU players will be involved – four for Dublin and two for Tyrone. Having played together to retain the O’Connor Cup (All Ireland Colleges title) in March of this year, camaraderie and collegiate links will be set to the one side for 60 minutes in pursuit of All Ireland glory for their respective counties.

Both teams will be keen to win the midfield battle where DCU’s Niamh McEvoy (Dublin) and Shannon Quinn (Tyrone) are likely to line out. Shannon captained DCU to All Ireland success this year and both girls have played a vital role in leading their counties to the holy grail of Ladies Gaelic Football.

Lyndsey Davey and Amy McGuinness have contributed handsomely to the Dublin scoreboard throughout their championship campaign including a brace of 1-4 in the semi final victory over Laois. The final DCU cog in the Dublin wheel is Emma Travers and all 4 girls will be hoping to go one step better than 2009 when Dublin lost to champions Cork at the final hurdle.

DCU’s Sarah Connolly is Tyrone’s target woman at the edge of the square and her DCU team mates, as well as Dublin manager Gerry McGill who also manages UCD, will be all too aware of her offensive threat in the final third of the pitch.

Both teams are very much on form which augurs well for a titanic battle at GAA headquarters. Dublin will call on all their experience from last years final outing whilst Tyrone will hope to build on their landmark victory over reigning champions Cork in the quarter final, as well as their epic against Kerry in the semi final that required a replay.

DCU will be home to members of the All Ireland Ladies Gaelic Football winners for 2010 but will they be from Dublin or Tyrone?? Good luck to all the girls.
