2009/10 Postgraduate Accommodation Scholarship winners
29 September 2009

The Postgraduate Accommodation Scholarship scheme is run each year and is sponsored by the Office of the Vice-President for Research (OVPR) in conjunction with Campus Residences Ltd. The scholarships recognise outstanding achievement at undergraduate level and offer free rental expenses in the Postgraduate Residences for one year. The deadline for the scheme each year is 1st July and it is open to all students who will be undertaking their first year of research at DCU in the following academic year.
Applications are always of the highest standard and the final decision is made by a selected panel of DCU academics. This year the awards were spread across three schools/faculties – the Faculty of Science & Health, Faculty of Engineering and Computing and DCU Business School.
The award winners are currently carrying out research in the following areas:
- Gabriel Nzulu – supervised by Prof Colette McDonagh – Optical waveguide platform for microbial sensing
- Soujanya Edupuganti – supervised by Prof Richard O’Kennedy – Development of immuno-affinity columns for the isolation of toxins using novel ligand binding scaffolds.
- Shane O’Reilly – supervised by Dr Brian Kelleher - Understanding autotrophic carbon cycling in the terrestrial environment by coupling Stable Isotope Probing (SIP) and advanced Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
- Fiona Flinn – supervised by Prof Patrick Flood and Dr Aoife McDermott – Organisational Climate and High Performance in Irish hospitals
- Ameera Ahmed – supervised by Prof Patrick McNally – Use of Open Cell Photoacoustic Detection (OCPD) for Atmospheric Plasma Characterisation.
