NCSR Innovates!
19 November 2010

On the 11th November DCU showcased an array of university led research that has reached the stage of commercialisation. NCSR Innovates! jointly hosted by the National Centre for Sensor Research and the Invent Centre, welcomed over 40 partners from commercial companies, venture capital groups and government funding agencies
The breakfast meeting was opened with a series of talks where speakers addressed the business aspects and challenges associated with bringing research from the bench to market. Talks covered topics from both academic and industrial perspectives and were supported by an overview of the funding mechanisms available to support knowledge transfer and commercialisation activates between both bodies.
Talks were delivered by NCSR members, Enterprise Ireland and IBM. The event was closed with a nostalgic review of the evolution of the NCSR by its founding director and DCU President Prof. Brian MacCraith. Prof. MacCriath also gave an overview of his vision for DCU in the coming years.
These talks were complemented with a display of 6 technology demonstrations. These demonstrations were positioned to showcase commercial opportunities available for immediate exploitation in the areas of personal health, cleantech and advanced biopharmaceutical analysis, having been developed under the NCSR banner.
Feed back from the attendees was extremely positive and has led to a number of discussions between interested parties and the Invent Centre.
