'Women After Beijing': speaker Gertrude Mongella, Secretary General of the UN Beijing World Conference on Women

The Centre for International Studies is delighted to be hosting Ambassador Gertrude Mongella of Tanzania. Ambassador Mongella has been a political activist all her live from the first years of Tanzania's independence, She has been a member of parliament, a Government Minister and an activist in many NGOs. On the international stage she has been Secretary General of the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, UN Under-Secretary and special envoy to the Secretary General of the United Nations on women's issues and development (1996-97, and the founding President of the Pan-African Parliamentary Union (2004).

There are 2 events this week to mark the 50th anniversary of Tanzania's independence.

This evening Wed 30 Nov at 6pm Irish Aid centre O Connell St Dublin. Ambassador Mongella will speak at a 50th Anniversary celebration, where she will be introduced by Minister Joan Burton, who worked in Tanzania before entering public life.

On Thurs 1 Dec 5.30 AG01 - ground floor Albert College, DCU Ambassador Mongella will give a seminar on "Women After Beijing"
