DCU Olympic hopefuls Heading to World University Games

Three of DCU's students are heading to Thailand for The World University Games on August 8.

Eoin Everard who has been a European junior semi-finalist in the past will be competing in the 800m whilst Ailish McSweeney will be competing in the 100m and 4x100m relay. Ailish won silver in the 100m and bronze in the 4x100m relay at the World Games in Izmir , Turkey in 2005. Mark Casserly will be competing in Taekwondo and views the University Games as “ an opportunity for excellent preparation for Olympic qualification next year”

The Irish team consists of sixty eight athletes in total; two fencers, eight swimmers, four tennis players, ten track and field athletes, a women's golf team of three and two football squads, men and women, with twenty players in each. Amongst the Irish delegation will be Ken Robinson who is Head of sports facilities in DCU and the DCU Tennis Club coach, Jamie Pilkington.
