Clubs & Societies Awards

The Annual Clubs and Societies Awards were held on Thursday April 6th, 2006 in Clontarf Castle.

The Clubs & Societies Awards are a celebration of the valuable role that clubs and societies perform in DCU. The Awards are an opportunity to recognise and reward the vast range of achievements and contributions that both individuals and groups have made to campus life.

Awards for Outstanding Club Fresher, Outstanding Society Fresher, Best Club Individuals and Best Society Individuals are voted by the Awards Committee, consisting of the Manager of Student Life, the Clubs & Societies Finance Officer, the Student Activities Officer, the Sport & Recreation Officer, the University Chaplain and a representative from AIB.

Awards for Most Improved Club, Most Improved/Best New Society, Best Club Event, Best Society Event, Best Club and Best Society are voted by the SPC & SCC Committees.

The following are the categories in which Awards were made:

    • Outstanding Fresher: Leonard Kelleher – Canoe Club
    • Best Individual Sporting Performance: Linda Byrne – Athletics Club
      Bryan Cullen – GAA Club
      Kevin Stacey – Swimming and Waterpolo Club
      Sinead Gallogly – Handball Club
    • Best Individual Administrator: Maurice Cosgrave – American Football Club
    • Best Sporting Event: Ladies Soccer Club – WSCAI Intervarsities
    • Most Improved Club: American Football Club
    • Best Club: Canoe Club
    • Best Website: Caving Club
  • Society Award Categories:
    • Outstanding Fresher: Stephen Grimes - Drama
    • First Five Society Individuals: John Doyle – Anime & Manga Society
      Claire Kehoe – Fotosoc
      Charlene Barrett – Film Society
      Cormac McCashin – An Cumann Gaelach
      Brian Smyth – Murder She Wrote Society
    • Best Society Event: Style Society – DCU Fashion Show
    • Best New: Poker Society
