DCU Capture All-Ireland Freshers’ Title
Thursday 22 March 2007
DCU 1-09 GMIT 0-10

DCU was crowned All-Ireland Freshers’ Champions at Pairc Ciaran, Athlone, on Wednesday, 21 March 2007. An impressive second half preformance against GMIT ensured DCU won the All-Ireland title for the first time in the university’s history.
This game hung in the balance throughout as two evenly matched sides gave a tremendous display in difficult conditions. DCU had the better of the early exchanges opening up a five-point lead thanks to a well-taken goal by David Kelly. GMIT eventually found their feet as the first half progressed closing the gap to three points at the break.
After the break GMIT made full use of a strong breeze placing DCU under constant pressure, but with centre back of Paddy Andrews in fine form and Ray Cullivan leading by example, DCU was able to hold strong. In the closing stages points from Shane Roche and Ray Cullivan ensured DCU was crowned All-Ireland champions.
