DCU multimedia students scooped two awards for their work at ceremonies in Dublin last week. Orla Hennessy, a second-year student, received the Student Digital Storytelling Award at the gala presentation of the Digital Media Awards. The previous day, Seen and Now Heard, an animation short created by final-year multimedia students, won the third-level category in the Irish Times Living Dublin Awards.

Orla Hennessy’s prize-winning work, The Forgotten, featured images of children from developing countries. It was one of four entries short-listed for the student award sponsored by Connect-World, a development education agency. All of the short-listed nominees were individual students or groups of students from DCU School of Communications.

Seen and Now Heard, winner of one of the Living Dublin Awards presented to groups, individuals and businesses working to improve the quality of life in Dublin City and County, was the work of Anita Freeman, Peggy O’Neill, Michael Richard, Wayne Gaffney and Edward Lowney. They have all now graduated from the BSc in Multimedia. Their lively and creative animation presented interviews with 10-12-year-old children in Finglas about various topics relating to diversity. It was supported by the Finglas for Diversity project, DCU’s Learning Innovation Unit and citizenship2005 (Curriculum Development Unit).
