Eilish McLoughlin was recently presented with the Young Professional Physicist of the Year Award from the Institute of Physics (UK and Ireland). The award is in recognition of her role as an excellent ambassador for physics and her achievements in increasing public awareness of physicists. Eilish has been the face of physics at DCU to many potential physics students through a range of outreach and school liaison activities. Eilish received this award at the Institute of Physics in Ireland Spring Weekend in March 2006. Eilish is also chair of the Institute of Physics of Ireland Education Group.

When asked about the award Eilish said. "I am honoured to accept this Institute of Physics Award, which recognises the importance of the promotion of physics at all levels. Physics is a fundamental science which can be investigated and demonstrated with everyday objects and materials- physics is all around us and so many aspects of our lives depend upon it. This award recognises the emphasis that the School of Physical Sciences in DCU places on the promotion and support of physics education and outreach at all levels and I would like to thank my colleagues for supporting me in all of my activities".
