Planning the Future Together - A Careers Seminar
Thursday 5 April 2007

On Tuesday 3 April 2007 the School of Education Studies, the Careers office and final year students from the Education and Training Degree staged a careers seminar. This was a unique venture that evolved from a group action research project which sought to meet the specific career guidance needs of education studies students and was attended by experts in the fields of both education and training in areas such as banking, community and vocational education, corporate training, language and research.
The format also included a valuable opportunity for students to discuss their individual needs on a one-to-one basis with speakers during a ‘networking’ hour built into the agenda.
Dr. Gerry McNamara, Head of Education Studies said ‘We are very proud of the achievements of the third year project group. The seminar is an excellent example of the power of action research and group learning and creates a template on which further learning can be achieved.’
The seminar offered a valuable opportunity for students of both the second and third year of the BSc in Education and Training full time course to network with people working in various fields of education and training. It also created links for the Education Studies Department to build future collaborative opportunities beyond Dublin City University.
