DCU Mercy claimed their first ever National Cup crown, denying Team Montenotte Hotel Cork a fourth victory at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght with a final score of 68-55.

DCU Mercy Head Coach, Mark Ingle said, 'I thought we hurt them inside at crucial times and we kept the head and composure down the stretch and that is what you need to do in those big games.’

Ken Robinson, CEO of DCU Sport said ‘It is a great achievement for all in DCU who have supported this partnership since 2006’.

The team has helped raise the profile of women’s basketball in DCU over the last 4 years. The squad currently has two DCU students,Christina Newton and Shauna O Connor, and 2 DCU Alumni as part of the squad, Anne Marie Healy and Suzanne Maguire. Past players Sarah Hughes and Helena Kenny are Alumni.
