Victory for DCU's Darren Sutherland

Darren Sutherland, Olympic bronze medallist, won the first match of his professional career last night at DCU.  He beat opponent, Georgi Iliev of Bulgaria, in the first round. According to Darren's manager, Frank Moloney, it was a great night for Irish boxing.  "I have travelled the world as a boxing manager - Las Vegas, London, Manchester - but I have never experienced an atmosphere like last night.  From the moment I walked into the sports hall, I could sense the excitement.  And of course, Darren is one of DCU's own, so there was an extra sense of occasion.  Darren has one of the best left jabs that I have witnessed in boxing for a long time.  We now need to move his career on to the next level; hopefully, the next match will be held in DCU and we can have a repeat performance from Darren".
