The Office of the Vice President for Research of Dublin City University (DCU) organised a Faculty of Humanities and Social Science Research Day on Tuesday 24 June.

Minister for State, Conor Lenihan TD, himself a distinguished former graduate of DCU, launched the event.

The Minister said:

"The Governmental Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation outlines the importance of, and the need to, upscale research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. This is founded on the belief in the essential value of education. There are also compelling social and economic reasons to further develop capacities in the Humanities and Social Sciences. They will improve understanding of the very rapid change of our economy, better informed policy-making and the integration of Ireland into the global economy, which is becoming increasingly dominated by knowledge based services. DCU, in its Research Strategy, “Leadership Through Foresight”, recognizes the key role that a university has in influencing our local, national and international communities. Over the past year, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in DCU has made important advances in its research.”

The Minister acknowledged the significant national and international research funding the faculty of Science and Health has received from a variety of sources.
