A DCU MBA team has won a top inaugural award for business strategy in a competition open to all Irish third level institutions with MBA and Phd Programmes.

The competition was held on Saturday 10 of June and organized by the MBA Association of Ireland (MBAAI) in partnership with the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET).

Each team was issued with a case study at the beginning of the competition and given four hours to conduct an analysis and prepare a presentation. The teams were judged on both content and presentation skills. Each team was comprised of five MBA students and two PhD students from the science and engineering areas. This combination of MBA students and technologists is a novel feature of the forum and reflects the shared aim of the two associations to promote more dialogue between technologists and business strategists in the advancement of Irish competitiveness.

The winning DCU team included:
Paul Allen, Conor Kellett and Caroline Mc Donagh from the DCUBS Executive MBA Programme, Brian Murphy and Bruce Philips from the DCUBS Corporate MBA Programme for the Local Government Management Services Board, and PhD students, David Mathews and Barry Ryan, from the faculties of Engineering and Science respectively. Dr Malcolm Brady was team coach and academic advisor.

"We are very proud of our team’s great achievement in being the inaugural winners and standard setters for this new all-Ireland intervarsity competition," according to Prof Brian Leavy, Academic Director of DCUBS.

The forum, which is the brainchild of Professor Patrick McNamee of the University of Ulster, chair of the inaugural event, is intended to provide MBA and technology students and their academic advisors from the participating colleges with an opportunity to network and learn from each other.
