CTYI Awards Ceremony

On Saturday April 24 CTYI hosted its annual Awards Ceremony  in the Larkin Theatre in DCU. The ceremony recognises the excellent achievements of some 300 secondary school students who qualified for the CTYI programme following a nationwide Talent Search. Over the course of the day at morning and afternoon ceremonies some 800 students and their parents visited DCU and students were presented with certificates to mark the occasion. Prsenting certificates on the day was the current Rose of Tralee, the London Rose Ms Charmaine Kenny. Charmaine from Kildare was a CTYI student in the past and attended summer courses in DCU between 1997 and 1999. The ceremony sponsored by Deloitte was also attended by Professor Richard O'Kennedy, Vice President for teaching and Learning and Professor Gary Murphy, Director of Graduate Research who presented special awards for the top scorers in the qualifying exam. Most of the students who attended the ceremony will be returning to DCU for the summer where they will participate in the 2010 CTYI Summer Programme where they can take courses in subjects like Biomedical Diagnostics, Engineering, Social Psychology, Novel Writing and Astronomy.
