Undergraduate Research Conference

Last Wednesday, October 12th, DCU hosted over a hundred undergraduate students from all over the country at "Research in the Real World", the Dublin Regional Higher Education Alliance's 2nd Annual Undergraduate Research Conference. This year the conference was national with undergraduate students coming to present from Galway, Letterkenny, Sligo and all across the Dublin region. Over thirty students presented their own original research in sessions chaired by lecturers throughout the day in disciplines as varied as biotechnology, psychology, and cultural studies to name a few. As well over twenty students presented their research through posters. The Best Poster Award went to DCU's own undergraduate Declan Hughes whose co-researchers won for their poster 'Young and Greedy: A relationship between the current economic crisis and support for overseas aid'. Prof. Finbarr Bradley gave an inspiring keynote "Research to Innovation: In pursuit of wisdom" that set the tone for the day of creativity and ambition. The conference was organised by the Teaching and Retention Committee of the DRHEA and presentations, keynotes can be found on the DRHEA Undergraduate Research website.
