First Graduates of BA in Contemporary Culture and Society Students
22 November 2010

On Monday, 1 November 2010, the graduates of the BA in Contemporary Culture and Society programme were conferred. This unique day is the culmination of years of hard work by the students themselves and also by DCU staff in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences who first envisaged this type of degree 7 years ago.
The BA in Contemporary Culture and Society is an innovative, interdisciplinary honours degree and is a programme based in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, DCU. The programme allows students to choose from a broad range of subjects from three thematic strands:
- Interculturalism and Language
- Contemporary Society and Internationalisation
- Media and Society.
The degree allows for gradual specialisation during each student’s three years of study.
Graduates already have various plans since finishing in June this year, including postgraduate study both in Ireland and abroad varying from International Peace Studies, Social Policy and Social Development to PR and Event Management. Graduates have also undertaken travel and work in Australia and South America.
Claire-Louise Doyle, one of the course’s first graduates said: “I have graduated from this course with respect and consideration for other cultures and societies. I loved the versatility of the course and how I could specialise in political modules.”
To celebrate this special occasion the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences held a function for the graduating class and their guests in DCU.
