Media Production Society wins 'Best Society' at BICS awards
27th April

Dublin City University's Media Production Society has won the title of Best Society by the Board of Irish College Societies (BICS) Awards held on Friday 23 at the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill. The event was attended by special guest Mary Davis, and 200 society volunteers and administrative staff from all the Irish third level institutions. The aim of the awards is to recognise the huge efforts and dedication of the many individuals who run student societies across Ireland, and provide an opportunity to celebrate the valuable contribution that societies make to college life.
Societies are required to submit an application form and a detailed portfolio of activities organised throughout the year. In an interview with the members of the Media Production Society, the judges said they were impressed by the number and range of activities which included running of the DCU radio and tv stations, DCUfm and DCUtv, the running of a 24-hour live TV broadcast which raised over £2,000 for Japan, the organising of a short film-making intervarsity competition, the production of two short films for TG4 and the hosting of a Dublin Northwest election debate. Diarmuid Hayes, Chair of the Media Production Society, said,"This has been the best year of my life. Like so many others in the society, MPS has consumed me this year. I've never met a more passionate group of people than those in MPS. Our members love what they do, and love to support and help each other. A big thank you to last years committee and to everyone in DCU, who have been very kind to us this year."
Meg O'Riordan, DCU SU President, said: "What an epic night! I'm delighted for MPS, what an awesome committed bunch of people. MPS saved the night and flew the DCU flag high. It was well deserved after a year of 24/7 dedication. Seriously, they never leave that studio! Not to mention what heroes they are. Well done lads." DCU's Style Society also won 'Best Poster' for their recent fashion show, 'Cobble Couture'.
