Prof Colum Kenny

Colum Kenny, Professor of Communications and Journalism at DCU, has been nominated to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) by the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan, TD.  His nomination was unanimously approved by the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.

At its meeting yesterday, the Minister also accepted the nominations of two DCU graduates, Aileen O'Meara and Orlaith Carmody, to the Board of RTE. This is the first time an Oireachtas Committee has been mandated to appoint members to the board of a State Agency.

139 applications were received for the RTÉ Board and 130 for the Broadcasting Authority.

The BAI will replace the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) and the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCC) and for the first time will regulate both commercial and public service broadcasting.

Colum Kenny is Professor of Communications and Journalism at DCU.

Orlaith Carmody is a director of a media and management consultancy.  Aileen O'Meara is a self-employed independent radio producer with her own production company
