DCU launches Ireland's first Graduate Diploma/ Masters Programme in Procurement

Dublin North West TD Pat Carey today launched DCU’s new Graduate Diploma / Masters Programme in Strategic Procurement.

The first of its kind in Ireland, the aim of the programme is to build the capacity for strategic thinking in procurement and meet the changing skills requirements for professionals either engaged in or working closely with the procurement function.

Mr. Paul Davis, Chairman of the Programme said “Finance Minister Brian Cowen recently identified Procurement as one of the key areas in the Irish Public Sector for development and training, stating that over €11 billion is spent in the Health Sector, of which over €5 billion is on procured goods and services.”

“This programme has been endorsed by the National Public Procurement Policy Unit in the Department of Finance as being a suitable programme to improve the strategic procurement skills of individuals in the public sector.”

Grainne McGuckian from the NPPU spoke on behalf of the Department of Finance.

This new programme will be offered to a maximum of 25 students on a part-time basis over two years and will be delivered by block release 3 days per month i.e. Thursday/Friday/Saturday.
