School of Communications offer Media Diversity Training
Wednesday 22nd March

To coincide with Intercultural Week, the School of Communications is launching a new strand to its existing range of short courses. These one- and two-day courses respond to the growing need for fairness, accuracy and self-representation in the reporting of ethnic-minority issues, and are intended to encourage a more diverse and democratic media in Ireland.

The training draws on the existing expertise and facilities within the School as well as bringing in experienced ethnic-minority journalists and media practitioners from outside DCU. The courses will be tailored to meet the needs of ethnic-minority groups, community groups, NGOs, educators and ethnic-minority journalists, and include:

  • Dealing with the Media
  • Media Production Skills (radio, video, website design, desktop publishing)
  • Add-on Skills for Ethnic-Minority Media Professionals
  • Online training for media practitioners in developing countries

This list is not exhaustive and courses can be adapted to meet the specific requirements of individual groups. Out-of-house training may also be arranged in special circumstances.

The training, which is funded by the National Action Plan against Racism (Ireland Embracing Cultural Diversity), will be offered at subsidised rates.
