Golfing history at DCU
Tuesday 13 May 2008

Golfing history was made at DCU on Thursday 20 March 2008 when DCU won the 2008 Staff Intervarsity Golf Competition for the first time. The victory took place at one of the most difficult courses in the country – the Montgomerie Course at Carton House, Maynooth. The DCU golf team finished eight points ahead of the second placed team.
It is a long established competition, the competitors this year included: AIT, CIT, DCU, GMIT, NUIG, NUIM, TCD, UCC, UCD, UL.
Within DCU, following a tremendous competition for places, the selected pairings were:
Stephen Spierin (Donabate GC) / Ross Munnelly (Carlow GC)
Damien West (Old Conna) / Dave Faherty ( Forrest Little GC)
Conor Long (Navan GC) /John Cramer ( Balcarrick GC)
Frank Soughley (Black Bush) / Ken Whelan (Kilcock GC)
Liam O’Reilly (Corrstown GC) /Michael Thornton (Hollystown GC)
This is a great boost to the DCU Staff Golf Society. The handicaps of the team members ranged from 6 to 20!. Anybody from the Society can make it, the selection was based on current form!!
Hopefully this great win will attract even more members into the Society – beginners and experienced golfers alike - see: http://www.dcu.ie/golfsociety/
Heartiest congratulations to all involved. Here’s to next year and “two-in-a-row”!!
