DCU students to appear on RTE's Late Late Show following athletics success

17 December 2010

Two DCU students, one current and one former, will appear on RTÉ's Late Late Show tonight (17 December) following sporting success last weekend. 2nd year B.Sc Marketing, Innovation & Technology student John Coughlan, son of Irish Olympic medalist Eamonn Coughlan and DCU alumnus Brendan O'Neill (B.A. in European Business Transatlantic Studies) were part of the Irish U-23 mens team who claimed a historic gold in last weekends European Cross Country Championships in the Algarve.

DCU was represented by five current DCU athletes and five recent graduates at the Championships, a great honour for the university and the DCU Athletics Academy. The current athletes included: Emmet Jennings (PEB1), Paul Robinson (EPL1), Darren Mc Brearty (ACM 2), Laura Behan (ACM1) and John Coghlan (MINT 2). The recent graduates include: Brendan O Neill, Brian Farrell, Hazel Murphy, Mark Christie and Fionnuala Britton. In addition, Ciara Durkan was a reserve on the Senior Ladies team.

Director of the DCU Athletics Academy, Enda Fitzpatrick said “This is a wonderful achievement for DCU in that almost one third of the Irish team are (or were) key members of the Athletics Academy over the last 5 years” .

The Late Late Show is on RTÉ One tonight at 9.35pm.
