Follow DCU Microbiologist Dr Orla Cahill (aka Dr. Dirt!) on her weekly TV slot on RTEs afternoon programme Seoige & O Shea. Each week Orla sets out on a mission to discover just what bugs and viruses are lurking in our homes, in the wild and even on us!

In the first of a ten-week series Orla visits a beach on the east coast of Ireland.  She shows how a family day trip to the seaside could prove hazardous.

According to Orla’s research everything from ecoli to streptococci are present in the water and among the sand dunes on our favourite beaches!
