Double Award for DCU at Irish Academy of Management (IAM) Conference
Best Paper winners, Thadeus Mkama, DCUBS and Chris O Riordan, DCUBS/WIT

Ph.D. Students are Best Paper Award Winners

Thadeus Mkama of Dublin City University Business School (DCUBS) and Chris O Riordan, DCUBS/WIT, are the Best Paper prize-winning Ph.D. candidates at the 11th Annual Irish Academy of Management (IAM) Conference.

Both students are attached to the Learning Innovation and Knowledge (LINK) research centre at DCU Business Schoool. Mr Mkamwa, St Augustine University, Tanzania is researching the reactions of employees to the introduction of high performance work systems in the top 1,000 Irish companies. Mr O Riordan is investigating the careers and management development needs of doctors. He lectures at the Waterford Institute of Technology.

The Irish Academy of Management (IAM) Conference 2008 was hosted by Dublin City University Business School from the 3rd to 5th September 2008. The Conference, which attracted more than 200 delegates, featured leading national and international speakers in a range of management disciplines. This year’s theme was ‘New Ideas for a New Century’.

Parallel sessions addressed emerging ideas in the field of management, including human resource management; entrepreneurship; strategic management; healthcare and public sector management; industrial relations; tourism; management education and learning; accounting and finance; information systems; knowledge management; marketing, consumer behaviour and management; and organisational behaviour.

Keynote speakers were Professor Harry Sapienza of the University of Minnesota, USA; Professor S.P. Raj of Syracuse University,USA; Professor Steve J. Carroll of University of Maryland, USA, and Professor John Ford of Old Dominion University, USA.
