Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin addresses DCU staff and students

His Grace, Most Rev. Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland gave his address to students and staff of the university entitled "Changing Society - Changing Schools". Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Martin is patron of the majority of primary schools on the East Coast of Ireland as well as over 200 second-level schools and a number of third level colleges including two of DCU's linked colleges, St Patricks's Drumcondra and the Mater Dei Institute of Education.

Dr Martin worked as senior Diplomat for the Holy See before taking up office in 2004 as Archbishop of Dublin and he has represented the Vatican in a number of Forums including the United Nations and the European Union on social justice issues.

This is the first time that the School of Education Studies has had a Commencement to start the academic year and it also marks the beginning of the new Graduate Diploma in Education programme which is Ireland's first part-time teacher training programme for second-level teachers
