DCU MERCY retain their National Cup Champion title

At the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght on Sunday afternoon 30th January to a maximum capacity crowd saw 2010 cup holders DCU MERCY retain their National Cup Champion title for the second year. A spectacular display of women's basketball as DCU MERCY once again took on rivals Team Montonette Glanmire.

Mercy Basketball Club founded in 1990 after dominating Division 1 in Womens Basketball in Ireland in 2004. The Club joined the Womens Superleague in 2005. In 2006 the Team under the Mercy Club Banner won the Regular Season Title. In 2007 Mercy Basketball formed an alliance with DCU University to play as DCU Mercy and this resulted in Mercy winning the Womens Superleague for the first time. In 2009, DCU Mercy again took the Regular season title. DCU Mercy have won 2 National Senior Cup finals and this adds to the 2 Regular Season titles and now 1 Superleague titles they have won since the association with DCU.

DCU Mercy have had some standout DCU graduates and students on the team over the years including Suzanne Maguire MVP in this years final and Christa Newton, Shauna O’Connor, Catriona Foley and Annemarie Healy.
