Graduation Ceremony
Graduation Ceremony

The Irish Centre for Talented Youth, in collaboration with the Access programme, ran classes in November for sixty children who attend local schools. The children range in ages from nine and ten. A graduation ceremony for the children took place on the 29th November and was attended by DCU staff, parents and teachers and the project was hailed as a great success.

The goal of the project was to provide extra stimulation for students who had been identified by their teachers as having great academic potential. The course, which was sponsored by Discover Science and Engineering, covered exciting topics of Forensics, Chemistry and Engineering. Rockets were launched, criminals caught and slime monsters were made.

Many thanks to the School of Chemical Science for the use of their laboratory – hopefully these children will be encouraged to study science at second level and will go on to attend science courses at university.

These courses will be run again in the spring term. If you would like to get involved in this project or require further information please contact Eleanor Cooke at the Irish Centre for Talented Youth: eleanor.cooke@dcu.ie or Bronagh Duffy with the Access programme at: bronagh.duffy@dcu.ie .
