09 November 2010

Lecturer of Business and Management at Fiontar, Dr. Ciarán Mac an Bhaird, was presented with a ‘best paper’ award at the 33rd annual conference of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE) in London last week. Mac an Bhaird received his award from Professor Nigel Lockett, president of ISBE, for his paper titled ‘Firm financing: A resource based view’.
The ISBE conference featured over 250 presentations, and Mac an Bhaird’s paper was selected as the best paper in the Finance, Venture Capital, Taxation and Regulation Track. Reflecting the current worldwide economic circumstances, the theme of this year’s conference was Looking to the Future: Economic and Social Regeneration through Entrepreneurial Activity. Addressing this topic, Mac an Bhaird emphasised the importance of financial managerial competency in attempting to alleviate liquidity problems such as those that arise in the present credit crunch.
Mac an Bhaird gratefully acknowledges assistance received from the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Research Travel Scheme, and the support of Fiontar.
