Irish Science Success at 2007 International Olympiads

Irish students have again achieved success at the 2007 International Senior Science Olympiads by winning medals at all the events.
Four Irish Physics students won two bronze medals and two Certificates of Honourable Mention at the 38 th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2007) in Isfahan , Iran in July.
The Irish team was selected and trained by Dr. Paul van Kampen, Dr Eilish McLoughlin, Mr. David Rea ( St Colman's College, Fermoy, Co. Cork ) and the staff of the School of Physical Sciences DCU.
Four students - Mark Moriarty, Christian Brothers School , Sidney Hill, Cork; Eamon Robinson, St. Columb's Collge, Derry, Co. Derry; Simon Wright Methodist College, Belfast, Co Antrim and Paul McElhinney, Belvedere College , Dublin 1 - received a six-day intensive residential training programme in DCU on the IPhO syllabus, prior to their departure for Iran.
Simon and Paul were awarded Bronze medals and will both receive IBM Scholarships for €750. Mark and Eamon were awarded Honourable Mention Certificate.
Since 1998, Ireland 's first year of participation, Irish students have won 6 bronze IPhO medals. A further 8 students have been awarded Honourable Mention Certificate. Dr. Paul van Kampen and David Rea were the team mentors and Michael Cotter was delegation leader.
