Professor John Crown, Thomas Baldwin Chair in Translational Cancer Research in DCU, won the Best Overall Paper in the IJMS Doctor Awards in 2005 for his findings into breast cancer research and chemotherapy treatments. The IJMS Doctor Awards recognise the excellence in clinical research by doctors working in Ireland.

His work in Translational Cancer involves researching the link from “bench to bedside”, which is a term used to describe the bridge between clinical research, such as the work of National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology (NICB) at DCU and treatment conducted by doctor-patient relationship.

Prof Crown has also received a merit award from the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) for his work in breast cancer research and he was the first Irish oncologist to receive such recognition. He is internationally credited for his work into improving the effects of chemotherapy dosage for cancer patients.
