Mr Conor Lenihan, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with Special Responsibility for Overseas Development & Human Rights, opened the Seán Lester memorial lecture in DCU on Tuesday 19 September 2006 which was co-hosted by Amnesty International.

Ursula Wynhoven, Head of Policy and Legal at the UN Global Compact office in New York, gave a talk on how businesses can respect human rights within their company operations. Ursula is responsible for the Global Compact’s work programmes on human rights and labour principles, government and donor relations and for the Global Compact’s integrity measures.

Dr Peadar Kirby, Co-Director of DCU’s Centre for International Studies reflected on the life of Seán Lester, a distinguished Irish diplomat, he was also the final Secretary General of the League of Nations throughout the Second World War.
