The International AIDS Trust was established to create strategic opportunities for galvanizing leadership, mobilizing resources, and promoting effective interventions in the global battle against AIDS. The International AIDS Trust is a single-focused non-governmental organization (NGO) with both long-range vision and rapid response capability. While the Trust is new, its principals shaped the expanded US Government's response to this pandemic and now seek to bring the same energy and skill to a private sector venture.
The Trust is led by Sandra L. Thurman, who served as Director of the
White House
Office of National AIDS Policy and the first Presidential Envoy for AIDS
Cooperation. During her tenure, the US Government mounted a broad based
multi-sectoral global AIDS response; declared global AIDS a national
security threat; tripled global AIDS funding; leveraged additional G8
support; escorted numerous delegations to Africa; and enjoined leaders
from the world over in the fight against AIDS. Previously, Ms. Thurman
served as the Director of Advocacy Programs for the Task Force for Child
Survival and Development at The Carter Center, and as Executive Director
of AIDS Atlanta, one of the largest AIDS service organizations in the
United States.
