DCU 12th Annual Alumni Golf Classic

The DCU Alumni Association held its 12th Annual Alumni Golf Classic on the prestigious Palmer Course in the K Club, Straffan on Friday 18th September 2009. Over 80 graduates took part in the event which was sponsored by AXA Insurance. The Annual event gives graduates the opportunity to enjoy a day’s golf on one of Europe’s finest championship courses or enjoy the spa facilities in the K Spa, whilst raising funds to support Access scholarships for DCU.

The day began with a BBQ lunch from 12pm on arrival followed by a shotgun start for all the teams at 1.30pm. The golf was followed by dinner, entertainment and a prize giving ceremony in the Palmer Clubhouse. Martin Conry, Secretary of DCU and Ferdinand von Prondzynski, President of DCU were the keynote speakers before dinner. DCU graduate Pat O’Mahony, who is undertaking a documentary on DCU’s 20th Anniversary, spoke after dinner.

Jim Moore, Chair of the Alumni Council, said: “The Alumni Golf Classic s very popular and is building momentum every year. I played today with little practice but had a most enjoyable day and evening. It’s a great opportunity to join fellow graduates on one of the top golf courses in Ireland. The DCU Alumni Golf Classic and Annual Soccer Alumni Tournament are amongst the largest sporting events for alumni in the country.”

Already graduates are signing up for next year’s Golf Classic. The venue for next year’s event is to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
