The Jennifer Burke Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning

On 29 June 2007 the Learning Innovation Unit lost a good friend and colleague, Jennifer Burke. The Jennifer Burke Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning has been set up in commemoration of her passing.
Jean Hughes, Director of the SIF Programmes, ‘OVPLIR’, said, “We remember her as a “lively, intelligent, vivacious, energetic, optimistic and dedicated Learning Technologist. Her interest in and commitment to educational technology and teaching and learning in general were defined by passion and unceasing dedication to the advancement in this area.
Jennifer was a ray of sunshine in the LIU, always in good form, always positive and optimistic. We sincerely miss her warmth and presence and we will remember her for many years to come.”
Jennifer was well known and highly regarded, not just in DCU, but amongst the national and international e-learning community, in particular the Moodle Community. As well as representing DCU, Jennifer frequently volunteered for additional services such as web site development and provision and support of Moodle resources to support the project.
The award will recognise and reward innovative practice in teaching and learning in Ireland, and in particular, will reflect and remember Jennifer’s vibrancy, creativity, energy and passion for learning. Each year the recipient of the award will be presented with a specially commissioned piece of artwork. It is intended that this piece will be displayed in the recipient’s organisation for one year.
The Deadline for submissions is the 6 February 2009. Please visit http://jenniferburkeaward.ie/index.html for further details.
