10 K Walk
18 November 2002

The fifth annual Students' 10K Walk, which is a joint collaboration between Irish Universities and Colleges, took place on Thursday 18 November. The walk helps to raise awareness and funds for people in Belarus who were affected by Chernobyl. This year DCU led the Dublin part of the walk followed by St Pats, DIT, TCD and UCD. The walk takes place simultaneous around Ireland, with student taking to the roads in counties from Belfast to Waterford. Other events were organised on the DCU campus to support the charity.
The walk raises money for people in Belarus affected by the Chernobyl disaster. This year funds raised will go towards a Hospice care programme in the Gomel Region, which is next to the radiation zone, a Day Care Centre in Minsk, a bus will be purchased to transport the children and a number of homes will be built throughout the Belarus community for mentally and physically challenged people living in the community.
This is the only national student charity, for more information log on to: www.10kwalk.com
