DCU is very proud of its strong partnership with leading employers and DCU Alumni and the 2010 Careers Day is testimony to this. The Careers Day was organised by DCU Careers Service to inform students and graduates about their employment options open to them. Despite the recent challenges posed by the downturn in the global economy, it is refreshing that 40 leading exhibitors attended the event and were very keen to meet with DCU students and graduates.

The event was opened by Prof Richard O’Kennedy, Office of the Vice-President for Learning Innovation. The new incoming President to DCU Prof Brian MacCraith was also in attendance as well as the Deputy President Prof Anne Scott. The event was very popular with students and they were given a fantastic opportunity to meet with employers and DCU Alumni to discuss vacancies available. Students also attended seminars on Starting a Business, CVs, Applications, Pyschometric Tests and Interviews. The seminars were facilitated by Invent, Accenture, KPMG and Science Recruitment Ireland. The CV clinic proved very popular with 17 HR professionals providing key tips on CVs. There were lots of free prizes donated by our sponsors during the day which added to the atmosphere.

DCU’s relationship with employers is built on a shared vision of developing bright and talented graduates for today’s competitive economy. This Careers Day came at a very opportune time when students and graduates are facing an ever increasing competitive jobs market.  DCU employers and Alumni were very impressed with the DCU students they met. The day was very popular and hopefully as a result of DCU Careers Day new additional partnerships will be formed between DCU students, alumni and employers.

In DCU we are very conscious of the quality of our graduates and we intend to continue working with employers so that our graduates are highly skilled, good communicators, team workers, problem-solvers and adaptable in order to succeed in the current jobs market. DCU Careers Service is delighted to have had the opportunity to bring together DCU employers, DCU Alumni and DCU students. It was an exciting and enjoyable event for all concerned. The Helix was the ideal location for this superb event.

With many thanks to all who made this day a great success.
