DCU launches new BA in Contemporary Culture and Society
- 22 January 2007
Students interested in how celebrities become celebrities, what effects increased immigration is having, and how media reporting influences perceptions of crime can probe these questions in a new BA course at DCU. The BA in Contemporary Culture and Society draws on the university’s expertise in politics, media, languages and cultural studies, to help students understand the world they are living in. Communication between cultures and soap opera are also on the programme’s diverse agenda.
The BA in Contemporary Culture and Society draws on the university’s expertise in politics, media, languages and cultural studies, to help students understand the world they are living in.
The programme is aimed at school-leavers and mature students who are curious about the ways in which power is exercised in society, how media contribute to public attitudes, how regions of the world relate to each other, how social change is influenced, and much more.
Students on this degree will also analyse the shifts taking place nationally and internationally, the impacts of migration, the growth of intercultural societies, and current developments in science and technology.
Students choose strands of subjects, specializing progressively as they go through the programme.
