DCU launches new Procurement MBS

DCU has introduced a new MBS in Strategic Procurement. It is the first educational program of it’s kind on the Island of Ireland targeted at senior staff who have a responsibility for large procurement projects. The Public Sector alone spends in excess of €8 billion each year on goods, services and assorted capital projects. As one example in the Health Sector over €5 billion is spent on procured goods and services. This emphasis on procurement has been identified recently as one of the key areas in the Irish Public Sector for development and training as late as October 2005 by Mr. Brian Cowen TD, Minister for Finance. The development and delivery of the program has been endorsed by the National Public Procurement Policy unit of the Department of Finance for the delivery of Procurement Education to the Public Sector.

The programme will be offered on a part-time basis over two years, commencing autumn 2006 and will be delivered by block release on 3 days per month i.e. Thursday/Friday/Saturday.

Applicants will be expected to have at least three years' experience in the broad area of procurement or supply chain / operations management (including areas such as buyer, contract management, and supply chain management) or extensive experience of procurement issues and must be in a position to undertake and implement project-based assignments within their work Selection of applicants may include an interview
