DCU President welcomes the establishment of €72m BioTech Institute
1 September 2005
The President of DCU, Ferdinand von Prondzynski today welcomed the Government’s establishment of the €72m National Institute for Bioprocessing, Research and Training.
DCU will partner UCD, TCD and Sligo IT in ownership of the new facility that will be based at Belfield.
“This facility will provide critical research and training facilities for bioprocessing technologies which will demonstrate that Ireland is determined to be a leading centre in this industry. It will also provide assurance for investors that Ireland will have the skill base to support key biopharmaceutical research and product development. The institute will provide wonderful opportunities for Ireland’s graduates in this field ,” said Professor von Prondzynski.
He also thanked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment Michael Martin for his tribute to DCU for leading the way in developing this concept.
The involvement of DCU in this development underlines the role DCU has played in pioneering animal cell biotechnology in Ireland through its world class research at the National Cell and Tissue Culture Centre and more recently through the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology
